Understanding Screen Sharpness
What is a good PPI for a Monitor?
For desktop monitors (viewed at arm's length):
- 90-110 PPI: Standard (Decent sharpness).
- 110-140 PPI: Crisp (good for office work).
- 150+ PPI: "Retina" like (Very sharp, hard to see pixels).
Why higher PPI on phones?
You hold phones much closer to your face (10-12 inches). To make pixels invisible at that distance, phones need 300+ PPI. Most flagships (iPhone, Samsung) are 450+ PPI.
DPI vs PPI?
PPI (Pixels Per Inch) is for screens (glowing pixels). DPI (Dots Per Inch) is for printers (ink dots). However, people often use the terms interchangeably.
